You would be wrong. Gretzky says the key to his success was how he connected with people on a personal level. “I have to show people a way to do things better,” he once said. “I don’t have all the answers. But I can help make the easy things happen, and the hard things don’t have to be too hard.”

Gretzky, who made a fast buck in the sports marketing business and who once ranked at number six in Forbes’ list of world billionaires, told Sports Illustrated that the most important thing he ever learned was how to meet people where they are – often they don’t fit into the stereotypical persona he imposes on himself. “I’m still figuring that out,” he once said. “I’m afraid I’m a compulsive learner.”
