Here’s a press release from IATSE:
LOS ANGELES– June 9, 2018– In a ballot process which lasted only 13 hours after breaking a month-long deadlock, the Southern California International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (“SCITSA”) Local 700, representing Hollywood crew crews on feature films and television, has ratified four new film and TV contracts with Film Independent, AMPTP, SAG-AFTRA and Independent Producers Guild of America (“IPGA”) with a 94-91 vote.
“The ratification process in Hollywood was conducted in a professional and courteous manner with extensive consultation with all the negotiating parties and by appropriately limiting the voting to the industry at large,” said SCITSA President Kevin Allred. “This collective bargaining process, which led to a positive, progressive outcome, would not have been possible without the contributions of many members of the union and their families.”
Directors Guild of America President Thomas Schlamme, who voted in favor of the new contracts, added, “These new contracts offer continued stability and will be a tremendous resource for our membership and our members who work for Film Independent. We’re grateful for the combined efforts of the artists, producers, IATSE and employers and I look forward to the future.”
“All of us here at Film Independent are pleased to welcome these new deals,” said Film Independent President Josh Welsh. “It’s a sign of the ongoing growth and momentum that we’re witnessing in our organization, the film industry and our membership. We hope that this lead to more year-round programming.”
Members of IATSE Local 700, a 65,000 member union of IATSE, will vote on the contracts after the successful completion of those pending resolutions, expected at the Tri-City Labor Council meetings in July, and ratification by the membership at national IATSE conventions in August and November.
“The ratification of this contract represents the unity that has existed among IATSE workers, communities, union leaders and policymakers since the turmoil in 2005,” said IA President Matthew Loeb. “Thanks to that unity, we’ve been able to fortify our bargaining stance and provide much needed benefits for workers in the industry in California.”
