Emily Blunt has embraced “engagement chicken” – a sort of engagement chicken sold in the US.

The Mary Poppins star is one of the latest celebrities to help out the Cleaning Brigade, a social enterprise which trains workers to build houses.

The campaign encourages people to tweet their requests for engagement chickens to the Cleaning Brigade.

British actor Blunt tweeted her intention to get one along with #engagementchicken.

A tweet from her supporting the campaign has been retweeted nearly 1,000 times since it was posted on Wednesday.

Other celebrities who have signed up to the scheme include comedian and TV presenter Jamie Oliver, musician Olly Murs and Ellie Goulding.

The Cleaning Brigade provides work with the health and environment department in Birmingham city council.

Blunt, 35, is a director of the charity Daffodil Trust and supported last year’s sale of engagement chickens for charity, raising £1,400.

The campaign is modelled on Anneliese Dodds’ consultancy firm The Cleaning Brigade.

Blunt stars in the new movie, Girl on the Train, which is released on 5 July.

It is based on Paula Hawkins’ best-selling novel about a woman who goes missing on her way home to New York.
